Here is another book I like:

www.amazon.com/.../0940985853

This is about using a Neti Pot. I think this is helpful for glaucoma patients.

Even before I knew I had glaucoma, and even before I had ever heard of it. I suspected that something wasn't quite right with my eyes. When they would feel "tense" and I would see halos , they would immediately disappear after a session at the gym. How can I learn about Serene Impulses and Bates vision techniques?

I hear a lot of reports from people who see significant IOP reductions immediately after exercise. The dramatic reduction in IOP is usually very short term, but there is also a moderate reduction in IOP that seems to persist, as I think you are reporting. Keep up the good work! :)

I have found that even moderate walking can be effective in reducing IOP if one uses a few techniques in conjunction with the walking. I plan to blog about this in the future. But to quickly summarize now, walk slowly in a relaxed manner and practice Serene Impulse while walking. One can also practice Bates vision techniques while walking. If your mind is settled and calm (which results from Serene Impulse) and you walk in a very relaxed manner (which usually means a slow pace) for at least an hour, you will get a nice IOP reduction from walking. This IOP reduction seems to be similar in magnitude and duration to the IOP reduction that persists from more intense exercise.

The past couple of years my exercise routine had slowed a little and my pressures had risen. I have recently been trying to exercise more often again, I notice that exercise that really raises my heart beat is the most beneficial. Moderate walking doesn't really do much. Yesterday I visited my Optometrist to take my pressure and it was 13 ! I was so happy its never been that low. In a couple of months I'll be going back to the hospital to see the specialists but I don't look forward to those visits : (

They can only go by what the machine tells them, but I go by what my spirit tells me.
Dora - that's a very nice comment. Something similar happened to me. Before glaucoma, I had gone through most of my life without really seeing and appreciating everything around me. Now, even with optic nerve damage, I really do see and appreciate the world much more!

It does sound like you are on the right track. And the path doesn't have to be a long one. Nor is it necessarily a difficult one. It can be as simple as remembering our true self and letting our ego be set aside.

Denial for me initially worked because I wasn't ready to confront my fears of having glaucoma, so I didn't think about it and focused on being physically active. Sometimes with acceptance comes negativity, but acceptance with inner strength which is what I almost have now can help me overcome glaucoma. I have a long way to go to reach the place that you have found but I am certainly on the right track.

This issue I want to raise is this:

What we resist persists.

This is something I continue to benefit from understanding and practicing and reminders about it are always beneficial to me. I hope a reminder is beneficial to you and others reading FitEyes.com.

Are you fighting for your sight? Are you trying to "beat this thing"? Are you resisting surgery? We can all ask ourselves these same questions.

Embracing glaucoma is an essential part of the healing process. See this article:

fiteyes.com/.../Embrace-Evolve-Exceed

You might also want to check out these:

fiteyes.com/.../We_2D00_Have_2D00_Chosen_2D00_Glaucoma

fiteyes.com/.../think-again

Eye surgery can be a viable solution for many people. In my opinion (subject to change), the alternative to eye surgery is ego surgery. If you can do ego surgery on yourself successfully, my experience indicates you will dramatically affect your IOP for the better.

re: Speedy Changes in My IOP

I do have optic nerve damage, but my pressures are rarely under 15. I really don't want to have surgery, and tell the doctors this each time I see them. Am I crazy? That's why I like this site because it gives me hope that I can kinda beat this thing without surgery. I am on three types of drops twice a day.

I'll describe one below:

First, put your photos on a photo sharing site such as Flickr. Then start a new thread in the General Discussions Forum on FitEyes.com. Maybe you could title it "Images that are a joy to see". When you write a new forum post, you will see an icon that looks like a tree - clicking this will bring up a dialog that allows you to insert an image.
