    Another newcomer

    Hello all,

I just joined.  I was just diagnosed a few weeks ago at the Adult Eye Clinic, U of WI, with pigmentary glaucoma in both eyes.  I have to do a lot of reading to understand this, but I also have the low pressure variety. Pressure in my eyes at diagnosis was  10 & 12.  I am on Xalantan in one eye nightly & have a recheck in August.  My diagnosis wasn't really a shock to me as I had lasik 9 years ago & ever since then with my anual checks, I've been told that my optic nerve showed a "propensity" for normal pressure glaucoma. So I guess it had was going to happen.

At the moment, I am also (hopefully) recovering from Cdiff (clostridium difficile) & have been working with a nutritionist on that. I am taking all kinds of alternative supplements including one called Eye Syngergy from Nordic Naturals.  Also vitamin D drops, black currant oil, permavite, vidacell, Co!Max, & others, including the superfood, Miracle Greens.  I am very interested in the role of natural supplements & diet in treating glaucoma or anything else, for that matter.

I also read with interest about the role of stress in glaucoma & can really identify with that as the past year has been a horrendous one, the most stressful of my life.  I think it set me up for the Cdiff & perhaps for the glaucoma too. I would like to learn more about this & also wonder if stress plays a role in the development of glaucoma, I wonder if relieving stress would be helptul in treating it.

    Glad to be here!

    Re: Another newcomer

From all that I've researched, Pam, I'm convinced that stress plays a role in glaucoma. (The unnerving part is that so few doctors acknowledge it.) I think you're probably right about its role in your glaucoma. Aside from research, I know of so many people who developed chronic diseases following acutely stressful periods in their lives. Stress attacks the most vulnerable part of our bodies, and there's such a strong eye-body connection.

I know that it's been quite awhile since you posted this. Hopefully you've already found a lot of help and answers. This site is such a gift. There's a wealth of information here that doesn't exist anywhere else. It also gives those of us who need alternative treatment a community with open minds about the 99.9% that those who practice "modern medicine" don't know about glaucoma.
