Possible Relation Between Glaucoma and GERD

Question: Often I see GERD and other stomach / esophagus problems on the Glaucoma website. I too have a modest GERD problem. Would there be a possible relation between Glaucoma and GERD? Might be lifestyle influances?

Answer: As you probably know, there is a relationship between all diseases; but I assume you are really asking whether there is a particularly strong or common relationship between GERD and glaucoma. I certainly believe there is. The common basis is at the emotional level. (But it is also interesting, tangentially, that H.Pylori has been implicated in glaucoma. See Oct 2002 Townsend Letter for Doctors.) Lifestyle strongly influences all diseases. That’s one of the primary principles of Ayurveda (and of other wholistic health systems too).

Here is a relevant mainstream article. I didn't find it very enlightening, but it could be a useful introduction:

The Neurobiology of Stress and Emotions

Here is an article on Traditional Chinese Medicine and GERD:

    GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease)

GERD and atrial fibrillation are frequently seen together too, and it's suggested that irritation of the vagus nerve is involved.... chicken and egg scenario?

Off topic: I don't know if you were intentionally being humorous or not, but I found your "chicken and egg" comment very entertaining. It is especially fitting with your avatar. That's not to say you aren't exactly on point. It is interesting to think about all the symptoms that cluster together in glaucoma. Cold hands and feet is another one.
