• Re: The Hills are Alive....

I understood Gruffy to be talking abou the sound of silence too. And I agree with all of you. The sound of silence is what one experiences when one allows the mind to settle down and thoughts to slow down or stop. When thoughts move very slowly or cease altogether, eye pressure goes down. And bliss rises...

  • Re: stress and its effects on iop

Nancy - thanks for posting that link. Here's the abstract. We have a few FitEyes.com members who read German. Maybe one of them has read the original. I have not. Klin Monatsbl Augenheilkd. 1998 May;212(5):270-4. [Effect of mental and physical stress on intraocular pressure--a pilot study] [Article...

  • Re: What foods are bad for your eyes and whats good for your eyes.

Sally - thanks for the comment. Are you familiar with the water drinking test for intraocular pressure? I expect that if watermelon elevates eye pressure, it would be mostly (or nearly exclusively) to the amount of water it contains. I have not noticed any increase in eye pressure from eating watermelon...

  • Re: Laser Surgery
I did check with one of the chain vision places about regular and frequent IOP checks...
I don't recommend those vision chains for this. For frequent eye pressure exams (weekly or more frequent) find a local doctor of optometry. I have several that will work...

  • Re: Laser Surgery

andrea - if you are having a great deal of vision loss, maybe you need to find a better glaucoma specialist. Did you consider Dr. Ritch in NY? You might also want to ask your doctor (or new doctor) about a 24 hour intraocular pressure exam with IOP and blood pressure measurements every 90 minutes while...

  • Re: IOP pressure after dialation

Billy - after I wrote my prior message, I realized I should probably delete it because discussion of stress, diet and self-tonometry is appropriate only in certain contexts. Before you consider doing anything -- even working with your diet or vitamins -- you need to see a glaucoma specialist. With intraocular...

  • Re: IOP pressure after dialation
I have been going by walmart to get tested.
I commend you for this. I think it is highly useful and I wish more people would do this. You should be able to get a "volume discount" for the IOP tests. I had a few different doctors of optometry that worked...

  • Re: IOP pressure after dialation

Some people do experience an intraocular pressure increase after dilation, but I think this is a discussion you should have with your doctor because several factors can be involved. In patients with narrow anterior chamber angles, pupil dilatation can even lead to a closed angle glaucoma attack. (Have...

  • Re: What foods are bad for your eyes and whats good for your eyes.

I have not seen any increase in my intraocular pressure after eating watermelon. I'll give you an opposing view just so you don't become overly fearful of eating any watermelon. Watermelon is a diuretic. So if drinking water can increase intraocular pressure, could the diuretic effect of watermelon...

  • Re: Vitamins and pressure
what about coleus. foskolin eye drops. there is some research on those, at pubmed.gov, but have not read it yet. supposed to lower iop. and oral foskolin supplements.
If any herb were going to lower IOP, I think it would be this one. You are right to consider...
