Glaucoma study
Dr. Edward Kondrot's office located in Phoenix, Arizona is recruiting patients for a one day study looking at the effects of different spectrums of light on intra-ocular pressures. Patients who are interested in this study will be required to spend all day in the office to have their pressures monitored after a 10- 20 minute application of light. Patients will also have a Visual Evoked Response (VER) before and after the light application. The VER measures the speed and amplitude of light conduction traveling through the optic nerve. There will be no charge for the evaluation, treatment and testing for this one day study. This clinical study is to study the data that was published in the American Journal of Ophthalmology in 1948.
“Some Experiments with Green Spectacles Prescribed to Glaucomatous Patients” By R. B. Zaretskava was published in the American Journal of Ophthalmology (AJO) in 1948.
The article showed a pronounced tendency of reducing intra ocular pressure in glaucomatous patients who wore green glasses. Pressures were measured 3 times a day at 7:00 AM, 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM. in 19 patients who had glaucoma. The decrease in pressure was fairly appreciable 6 mm Hg in 8 cases, 6 to 10 mm Hg in 9 cases and 10 or more in 3 cases. It was felt that green light brought about a definite rearrangement of the autonomic nervous system and thus affecting the intraocular pressure of the eye. This may be a valuable adjunctive therapy for glaucoma patients who are struggling to lower their pressures and those who are interested in reducing or eliminating toxic eye drops.
The data collected in this study will be presented at the College of Syntonics Meeting, St. Petersburg, FL in May 2010 and at the International Light Association Meeting, Amsterdam in Oct 2010.
Please contact Dr. Edward Kondrot's office if you have glaucoma and are interested in this study. Thank you for your interest!
