For the second time this year my IOP hit 24. I am 58 . My mother went blind from glaucoma ( in the boston area no less ) in about 2002 at the age of 72. She had been doing everything U Mass hospitals and associated doctors could come up with operations , stents, drugs etc. My younger brother lost significant vision in one eye at 43 ( about 2005). I was hoping I had my dad's physiology but alas more evidence that I don't. Although now at 90 my dad has macular degeneration ( wet ). My results so far are no damage yet so technically it is not glaucoma. Optomologists prescribes xalatan .005 i ask for cheaper and get Timolol Maleate. Drag myself to work and start to read about side effects. Askapatient.com has info on Xalatan, a little on timolol. I stumble onto this website and since I am a biomedical engineer by training and instrument and control engineer by default I find myself deeply interested in this selftonomotry. E mail dave. He fires back an email. I don't feel so alone. I had noticed that some activities like mountain biking do make my eyes feel better, not sure about sex and other activities I need to find out what works for me. So now the search for the least expensive way to own a tonometer. Will be contacting my insurance company to try an coorce them to pay something ( i assume they don't ).
