SAMe Supplement Not Recommended for Glaucoma Patients

Excess methylation in the central nervous system (CNS) via SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine) may lead to neurodegeneration. Parkinson's Disease and glaucoma have enough similarities for glaucoma patients to be cautious about SAMe based on this report.

However, if one considers the biochemical pathways for synthesis of SAMe, there would seem to be a very good argument for glaucoma patients to eat a whole foods plant-based diet, which is naturally low in methionine, the direct precursor to SAMe.
