I decided to test out my theory re: calcium and magnesium and I can say with certainty if I take a calcium supplement prior to bed, my IOP will spike the next morning.
Going on the theory that calcium and magnesium act as opposites in the body, I have been taking magnesium supplements prior to bed.
I am using Peter Gillham's Natural Calm. He offers products with calcium and magnesium blended as well as magnesium alone.
I also have found that it works fairly fast, I don't have to take it for weeks and weeks to see a change. It appears to change almost instantly. In other words, if I stop taking it and start again, the affect on my IOP is reliable.
I have my tonometer placed next to my bed, so I can literally roll out of bed and test my IOP without standing up. This is important because my IOP drops fairly fast if I get up and walk around.
For example, last night I took 2 teaspoons of magnesium and this morning I found my IOP to be 13.3 in my right eye and 16.7 in my left.
This is significantly better than the 19-24 numbers I was getting prior to two changes I have made:
1) Sleeping on a 30 degree incline pillow
2) Magnesium supplementation prior to going to bed
Hope this information is useful.
