Magnesium and its affects on my IOP

Submitted by dsaito on Sat, 04/23/2011 - 10:53am

I decided to test out my theory re: calcium and magnesium and I can say with certainty if I take a calcium supplement prior to bed, my IOP will spike the next morning.

Going on the theory that calcium and magnesium act as opposites in the body, I have been taking magnesium supplements prior to bed.

I am using Peter Gillham's Natural Calm.  He offers products with calcium and magnesium blended as well as magnesium alone.

Calcium and Magnesium affects on IOP

Submitted by dsaito on Sun, 01/16/2011 - 2:09pm

I saw an interesting program on television where a woman giving birth went into a very serious seizure.  The doctors were scrambling to find magnesium to handle the seizure, but they were out!  They searched and searched and finally found some.  The magnesium was administered via IV.  Once the magnesium was administered the seizure stopped.  However, the patient become unresponsive and was unconcious.  They had found in their rush to find the magnesium, they had administered too much.   Luckily the lead doctor was studying recently for an exam, and knew the antidote to magnesium overdose is

Sleeping with Head Elevated (actual results)

Submitted by dsaito on Fri, 12/31/2010 - 10:36am

After reading the full study on the effect of sleeping at a 30 degree incline, I decided to try it out.   Normally, my pressure is around 19 in both eyes first thing in the morning.  It drops within 15-30 minutes to 13-14 with normal activity (not exercise).

So, my problem is how do I lower my pressure while sleeping ?  The study seemed to offer a good solution and it can't hurt to try this once, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

My SLT Laser Surgery Experience

Submitted by dsaito on Thu, 09/18/2008 - 3:17pm

Thought I'd share today's Laser (SLT Surgery experience and the results)

First my eyes were given a few drops to lower the pressure (Alphagan) and a drop to constrict the pupils which also was used according to my doctor to lower pressure at one time.  However, the constriction drops cause headaches, so I was advised to take 2 extra strength tylenols 2 hours before arriving.  I took them one hour before arriving and I was glad I did.  After I took them, I could feel pressure in my head which I'm sure would have been a severe headache.

Follow up Doctor's Visit

Submitted by dsaito on Mon, 09/01/2008 - 8:50am

I made a visit to a new doctor.  I exercised before I left with my pressures around 13  on the AT555.  The doctor tested my pressure around 22-23.  Wasn't surpising since my pressure always seems to be high when I go to the doctor.  Coming home, tested 19-20 on the AT555.

He looked at my nerves and didn't like what he saw ("looks like crap" was his exact wording), so he is sending me to a specialist.  He said if he were me, he would get a trab immediately in both eyes.

I have an appointment with the specialist on Tuesday.

I went to the eye doctor to have an eye exam. Was a bit apprehensive my results would be higher than at home. Doctor proceeded to tell me I wouldn't do what you are doing, etc. Did not enjoy the visit at all!

Interesting discovery testing my pressure

Submitted by dsaito on Sun, 04/13/2008 - 11:24am

I just purchased an AT555 and started testing my pressure for a few days.  I noticed something interesting.

I tested my right eye and got readings 16-17 and tested left eye and got high inconsistent readings often with asterisks.  30-28-26.  Testing left eye over and over again, got many readings mostly with asterisks.
