Best Tonometers For Home Use Self-Tonometry

Submitted by dave on Wed, 12/17/2008 - 7:38pm

In my experience the best tonometers for home use (a.k.a., self-tonometry) are the Reichert AT555 and the Tiolat iCare. Of these the Reichert is much easier to use.

Had  the proview: it never worked :(

I say that's no surprise! Thanks for reporting your experience.

miller13 also asked some questions about which tonometers are suitable for self-tonometry.

Developing a Tiny Wireless Sensor to Monitor Glaucoma Around the Clock

Submitted by dave on Wed, 12/10/2008 - 9:02am

The original article is found on the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) website. HHMI investigator Simon W. M. John shares our perspective on intraocular pressure monitoring. He recognizes that intraocular pressure can vary quite a lot even in one day and that the value of measuring intraocular pressure only twice a year, as is typically done in practice, is very limited.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Acupuncture works better than drugs like aspirin to reduce the severity and frequency of chronic headaches, U.S. researchers reported on Monday.

A review of studies involving nearly 4,000 patients with migraine, tension headache and other forms of chronic headache showed that that 62 percent of the acupuncture patients reported headache relief compared to 45 percent of people taking medications, the team at Duke University found.

Hooded Eyelids - Possible Connection to High Pressure?

Submitted by Svenska on Thu, 11/27/2008 - 6:50am

Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone has done any research on the nature of ones eyelids in relation to a possible cause, or contributing factor to higher than normal eye pressure? In reading different articles I see where eye pressure can spike from just rubbing your eyelids, removing eye makeup, sleeping in a position where your eyelids are touching a pillow, and especially if someone sleeps head down on a pillow.

Glaucoma Related to Anxiety and Depression

Submitted by dave on Sat, 11/15/2008 - 3:41pm

Over the last several years, original research conducted by FitEyes.com has supported the observation that our internal state (which largely consists of our thoughts and emotions) is fundamentally related to the health of our eyes. Our physical health and our state of consciousness are intimately related and each can influence the other. However, in our model of health, consciousness is primary.

Non-medical Program to Reduce Intraocular Pressure

Submitted by dave on Mon, 11/10/2008 - 11:20am

UPDATE: At this time, a non-medical program to help people reduce their intraocular pressure through lifestyle modifications and mind-body techniques is not yet available. The knowledge exists, but before such a program can be offered outside a research setting, we need to train licensed medical professionals in how to teach this program to their patients.

I have personally researched this path to managing my intraocular pressure, and my own results have been outstanding, but at this time there is no program to train patients in the skills required to replicate my results.

Evolutionary Fitness vs Ayurveda

Submitted by dave on Sat, 11/01/2008 - 8:05pm

As you know, I am a fan of Ayurveda. One of the greatest living Ayurvedic physicians in the world, Dr. Brihaspati Dev Triguna, told me that going to bed regularly at 10:00 PM each night was the number one health promoting habit people could adopt. Many of the greatest minds from alternative medical systems echo similar advice: follow a regular schedule of eating, sleeping and exercise to build robust health.
