In my experience the best tonometers for home use (a.k.a., self-tonometry) are the Reichert AT555 and the Tiolat iCare. Of these the Reichert is much easier to use.

Had the proview: it never worked :(
I say that's no surprise! Thanks for reporting your experience.
miller13 also asked some questions about which tonometers are suitable for self-tonometry.
The original article is found on the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) website. HHMI investigator Simon W. M. John shares our perspective on intraocular pressure monitoring. He recognizes that intraocular pressure can vary quite a lot even in one day and that the value of measuring intraocular pressure only twice a year, as is typically done in practice, is very limited.
Hi DAve,
I recently came across a website, http://www.naturaleyecare.com/ and wondered if you'd come across it and what you thought of it? It's run by a Dr. Marc Grossman who is one of the leading holistic eye doctors, been in practice for 25 years, has several books out, and lectures nationally.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Acupuncture works better than drugs like aspirin to reduce the severity and frequency of chronic headaches, U.S. researchers reported on Monday.
A review of studies involving nearly 4,000 patients with migraine, tension headache and other forms of chronic headache showed that that 62 percent of the acupuncture patients reported headache relief compared to 45 percent of people taking medications, the team at Duke University found.
Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone has done any research on the nature of ones eyelids in relation to a possible cause, or contributing factor to higher than normal eye pressure? In reading different articles I see where eye pressure can spike from just rubbing your eyelids, removing eye makeup, sleeping in a position where your eyelids are touching a pillow, and especially if someone sleeps head down on a pillow.
We need to make some big decisions. And soon. I would like the FitEyes community -- you -- to get intimately involved in making these decisions. The issues before us are partly financial and technical, but they also extend to the core of what this community is about. So let me dive right in to the discussion and I look forward to your feedback and your support.
I hope you are not consuming protein supplements, but if you are, be aware of this news about melamine.
"China is one of the world’s biggest makers of supplements, and some protein powders and shakes are made largely with powdered milk."
Over the last several years, original research conducted by FitEyes.com has supported the observation that our internal state (which largely consists of our thoughts and emotions) is fundamentally related to the health of our eyes. Our physical health and our state of consciousness are intimately related and each can influence the other. However, in our model of health, consciousness is primary.
Cambridge University geneticist Aubrey de Grey has famously stated, “The first person to live to be 1,000 years old is certainly alive today …whether they realize it or not, barring accidents and suicide, most people now 40 years or younger can expect to live for centuries.”
UPDATE: At this time, a non-medical program to help people reduce their intraocular pressure through lifestyle modifications and mind-body techniques is not yet available. The knowledge exists, but before such a program can be offered outside a research setting, we need to train licensed medical professionals in how to teach this program to their patients.
I have personally researched this path to managing my intraocular pressure, and my own results have been outstanding, but at this time there is no program to train patients in the skills required to replicate my results.
Just wondering what foods are bad for your eyes? Everybody says carrots are good for your eyes.
I hope watermelon is good for your eyes cause I just ate a lot....
Eleuthero is an herb that is defined as an adaptogen. Which means it helps the body adapt to stresses. In this herbs case it works for both mental and physical stresses.
As you know, I am a fan of Ayurveda. One of the greatest living Ayurvedic physicians in the world, Dr. Brihaspati Dev Triguna, told me that going to bed regularly at 10:00 PM each night was the number one health promoting habit people could adopt. Many of the greatest minds from alternative medical systems echo similar advice: follow a regular schedule of eating, sleeping and exercise to build robust health.
hi
i was looking at a picture of the at555 and was wondering -
how does a person sit on one side with her head in the appropriate place and push the button on the other side to start the measurement?
does one just reach around the other side and hit a button or what?
thanks

I just read a very informative report on Taran's blog about his visual field and visual accuity improvements. Taran posted three visual field test results in this blog post. I highly recommend everyone take a look at Taran's results. Here's the link to his blog post, "Octopus Visual Field Scans Before, During and After Micro-Acupuncture & Diet Discussion". It is a great post.
