Excel Spreadsheets For IOP Data (Simple Version)

Submitted by dave on Fri, 08/15/2008 - 4:59pm

Attached is the simple spreadsheet format.

New self-tonometry members, please use either this spreadsheet format (simple) or the standard spreadsheet format (attached to the next message in this forum).

If you customize your spreadsheet, it is very important that you keep your data columns in the same order.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks.

Excel Spreadsheets For IOP Data (Standard Version)

Submitted by dave on Fri, 08/15/2008 - 5:02am

UPDATE: In 2010 we released FitEyes Insight software. There is no longer a need to enter your eye pressure data by hand in a spreadsheet. When you are using the FitEyes Insight software, your eye pressure data is automatically organized and stored in your own password-protected web page at http://insight.fiteyes.com.

Test Results

Submitted by Svenska on Thu, 08/14/2008 - 8:49pm

. Today was my follow-up appointment with my Orthomo to discuss the results of my Visual Field Test and Optic Nerve Imaging Photos that were taken last week. To back up a little it was early this summer at my regular eye exam with my Optomotrist that it was discovered that my eye pressure was high and needed to be evaluated by a doctor. The Optomotrist measured 29 IOP.

Quick Change in IOP

Submitted by Sally on Thu, 08/14/2008 - 7:55am

I had an interesting experience last night while taking my IOP. My measurements were in the low 20's for the first 5 readings, (3 on the right and 2 on the left) before the total was averaged. Just as I was pressing the button to take the last reading for my left eye, my husband called to tell me there was an ambulance at his niece's house across the road. That reading was {30}. We could see that her child was being taken on the stretcher, but he was alert and looked good.

Saving Data

Submitted by Sally on Tue, 08/12/2008 - 10:53am

Can anyone explain to me how to save each IOP data collected for the day? I have had to save all the data at the end of the day because I have not been able to get the Serial Watcher program to add the newest data to that saved earlier in the day. It does not seem to work like Word, Excel or PowerPoint. Is there a way to save data each time it is collected, under the same file name?

More on oxidative stress in neurodegenerative diseases

Submitted by dave on Sun, 08/10/2008 - 10:34pm

Glaucoma is a neurodegenerative disease of the optic nerve. Neuroprotection should be of great interest to any glaucoma patient. The abstracts below deal with potential use of dietary antioxidants in the prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative disorders.

Therapeutic effects of curcumin, the anti-inflammatory agent, against neurodegenerative diseases such as glaucoma

Submitted by dave on Sun, 08/10/2008 - 10:25pm

Interesting research about therapeutic effects of curcumin against an array of widely-spread diseases with Dave's comments. The article also makes reference to "ancient treatments" and discusses the very nature of inflammation.

Beliefs And Intraocular Pressure

Submitted by dave on Mon, 08/04/2008 - 3:56pm

This post is part of a series of articles intended to help you understand the relationship between your thoughts and your intraocular pressure. When I speak about the relationship between stress and eye pressure, many of us have a hard time making the connection -- because stress is a constant in most of our lives. This exercise will help make the connection between IOP and stress clearer.

Laser Surgery

Submitted by andrea on Mon, 08/04/2008 - 7:46am

I wonder if anyone has experience with this laser surgery for glaucoma. My IOP's range fropm 12 to 17. I have been getting a great deal of vision loss at this range. I guess the laser would lower it even more??? How low can it go? This is really sort of scary as I though my pressures were low. Ususally they are 12 to 15. I did check with one of the chain vision places about refular and frequent checks and they said they dont do that unless you are actively using their services. I guess this means 'full service.' If anyone knows about this laser stuff it would be great to hear. Thanks

Blueberries are just about the best food you could consume for protecting your vision

Submitted by dave on Sat, 08/02/2008 - 11:34pm

In a prior article about the best foods for fit eyes, I strongly recommended blueberries, grapes and raisins. I said, "According to Dr. Abel, [blueberries, grapes and raisins] contain anthocyanins, which improve night vision. A cup full of blueberries, huckleberry jam, or a 100 mg bilberry supplement should improve dark adaptation within 30 minutes."

Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.

Submitted by dave on Sat, 08/02/2008 - 4:58pm

"Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." is the mantra of a New York Times Magazine article containing an excellent account of recommended dietary concepts. You will see how the damaging concept of chemical nutrients could be replaced by knowledge of the healing effects of taste to bring nutrition back from the realm of the food chemistry lab into the real world of sensory pleasure and good health.

My Eye Pressure Scare

Submitted by dave on Tue, 07/29/2008 - 10:25am

This story has a positive end, but I did have a stressful situation yesterday in regards to my intraocular pressure. In the early afternoon I used the Tiolat iCare tonometer to measure my intraocular pressure, as I have been doing every day for a long time. I obtained seven intraocular pressure measurements (each the average of 6 probe contacts, so this was a total of 42 individual measurements) in the range of 3mmHg to 5mmHg in my left eye. (My right eye was a bit higher, in the range of 8 mmHg.)

The low intraocular pressure reading shocked me! Obviously, this is too low!

Deep flaws found in U.S. health care

Submitted by dave on Sat, 07/19/2008 - 12:04am

I love the freedom of choice we have in the US. We can choose any specialist and make an appointment directly -- provided we are willing to pay the costs ourselves when insurance won't cover it. But at least we have the option to make the choice. I hear from people in other countries who seem to have a much more difficult time finding quality care. These conversations remind me of what I like about the US health care system.
