Opinion: Are modern scientific explanations of disease essential?
I read in a book today that modern scientific explanations of disease are essential for healing.
That made me think for a moment. Here is what I came up with:

Hi Dave,
I've had glaucoma since my early twenties, 41 now. Thanks for your website, to say it has been helpful is an understatement.
I wanted to bring your attention to some glaucoma news I found while googling, I dont think it is already covered in the news section. Its on experimental eye drops containing NGF's (nerve growth factor) which work a bit like stemcells if i understand it correctly. In the small scale experiment lost vision has been (partially )recovered. It sure sounds like a miracle cure.

Spanish RNAi drug shop Sylentis expects to dose the first patient in a phase I study of its glaucoma-associated ocular hypertension drug SYL040012 in Spain around the end of September, a company official confirmed to RNAi News this week.
The disclosure comes about a month after the company announced that it had received clearance from Spanish regulators to begin the trial, in line with its previously disclosed guidance (see RNAi News, 2/19/2009).
I was very disappointed to see a reference to [homeopathic ophthalmology] in FitEyes.com. The worst view of homeopathy is that it is quackery; the less scathing one is that it is not "evidence based medicine".
What next? Will we see links to astrologers and aromatherapists who lay claim to curing eye diseases?

Please read this comment for the FitEyes perspective:This may be of interest to some. In no way am I recommending the use of any item on this list!
This year the World Glaucoma Congress (WGC) is taking place in the United States (Boston, MA) from July 8th to 11th. Dr. Ritch will be there, as will Marcel and I.
I believe all of you know, or know of, Dr. Ritch. Marcel is a key founder of the International Society for Self-Tonometry (ISST), of which Dr. Ritch is Honorary Chairman. Marcel is a driving force behind getting me and several other self-tonometrists together in Boston.
NEW ULM, Minn. — A judge issued an arrest warrant Tuesday for the mother of a 13-year-old boy resisting chemotherapy after the pair missed a court hearing on his welfare.
Brown County District Judge John Rodenberg also ordered that Daniel Hauser be placed in protective custody so he can get proper medical treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma.

. Today was my follow-up appointment with my Orthomo to discuss the results of my Visual Field Test and Optic Nerve Imaging Photos that were taken last week. To back up a little it was early this summer at my regular eye exam with my Optomotrist that it was discovered that my eye pressure was high and needed to be evaluated by a doctor. The Optomotrist measured 29 IOP. |
