What Is The Best We Can Hope For?

Submitted by dave on Mon, 06/02/2008 - 2:33pm

This is something else I want to share from my inbox. A friend, who I will keep anonymous, send me this comment in an email today:

"I was mentioning self-tonometry to one of my parents. I said that, at the very best, we can hold off (or even reverse) loss for ever. And at worst, we can delay the trajectory of the disease by a decade or more. Would you agree?"

Here is my reply:

Eye Pressure Research -- and Sexual Energy

Submitted by dave on Sun, 06/01/2008 - 2:00pm

One of the FitEyes.com members asked a question about the changes in intraocular pressure after sex in a comment to an earlier post on my blog about the potential relationship between masturbation and eye pressure. I'm going to give you an estimate of the intraocular pressure changes after sexual activity off the top of my head.

My Personal Self-Tonometry Setup

Submitted by dave on Sun, 06/01/2008 - 12:54pm

Someone recently asked me where I keep my tonometer. When I started self-tonometry, I kept my tonometer in my office in a convenient location so that I could check my intraocular pressure while working without getting up from my desk. I could check my IOP while talking on the phone or using the computer, for example. At that time stress was one of my main research focuses and work was my main source of stress. Eventually, I achieved excellent management of my intraocular pressure during the work day and I began looking at my diurnal IOP curve more closely.

Daily data collection

Submitted by Sally on Sat, 05/31/2008 - 3:18pm

Hi,

I understand that the AT555 should be connected to the computer for data collection. I do not work out of my home, so I am away from home, at my office most of the day. What is recommended for data collection in a case like this? I do have a computer at work and at home, but it would be difficult to transport the tonometer to and from work every day, making the computer connections, etc. How do others handle situations like this?

Submitted by dave on Fri, 05/30/2008 - 5:36pm

UPDATE: It is now April 2009 and FitEyes.com has once again upgraded its software platform. We moved from Community Server on Windows to Drupal running on Ubuntu Linux! That was a nice upgrade. :)

I'm keeping this old message around so we can see how the site used to look. Below is the original (now old) message from March 2008:

Having trouble logging in to the new FitEyes.com?

Submitted by dave on Wed, 05/28/2008 - 10:44pm

After the website upgrade today, you may need to delete the cookies in your browser if you have any trouble logging in. You can either delete all cookies or just the cookies from FitEyes.com.

In Firefox, you can open Preferences, go to the Privacy tab, click the Show Cookies button, and select the cookies to delete or you can remove all cookies.

Internet Explorer is probably very similar, although I don't use it so I can't offer exact steps. (I run Ubuntu Linux.)

Re: optic nerve death

When I have asthma attacks the ER admits me if [my oximetry readings] dip below 85 at all. I do go under 90% which could be one of times when the hemoglobin is unable to furnish plenty of oxygen. Maybe better management of my asthma would help.

I have taken an interest in monitoring oximetry while doing other IOP research, including while doing pranayama, Serene Impulse and many of the other techniques I'm testing. I don't have anything extremely interesting to report yet, however. UPDATE: see Eye Pressure Miracle.

Ocufors - Is it Ayurvedic?

Submitted by dave on Sat, 05/24/2008 - 2:02pm

In 2006 I wrote about the news that Ocufors, a plant-based pharmaceutical product for glaucoma, had received regulatory approval from India's equivalent of the US FDA (the Drugs Controller General of India - DCGI).

Ocufors is a natural, plant-derived product that has been found to be 30% more effective at reducing intraocular pressure than existing glaucoma drugs, according to its manufacturer.
